A private collector asked us to frame this so it would be ready to go to auction. It’s an original canvas by David Hockney. We used a large format tray frame. Normally when using a tray frame we would only add about one to two centimeters but our client wanted 10cm. We had to construct a plinth for the canvas to sit on and a white limed wooded slip to cover in the nails. We then added a 5cm tall tray. Once these were together and dried we applied the gesso. This gives the appearance that it is one solid piece. We used a hand made umber bole as the finish colour and polished it to a marble shine.
